EL ROBALO SPORTFISHING is pleased to provide for you a visual representation of the many prized sport fish and best times of the year to catch them

MARLIN
September through November is normally the top months for Black, Blue and Stripped Marlin along the Central Pacific coast. An occasional Blue and a rare Black can be found throughout the year along high spots and sea mounds further offshore.
SAILFISH
Sailfish, an active and agile fighter, have the largest dorsal fin of all the billfish most like a sail. When hooked they will spend a good portion of the fight in the air with explosive leaps and bounds. The best season is during mid December to the end of April when they migrate north. During the months of June through September a few sailfish will show mixed with other species found inshore.
DORADO (Mahi Mahi)
The Dorado is among the most colorful of the game fish. A golden headed sideways-scissors jumper that changes from glowing green and gold with electric blue spots to light blue and vivid silver. The best action begins with the rainy season in late May. Debris is washed out to sea from river mouths creating shelter for bait where Dorado love to feed.
TUNA
Yellowfin and Big Eye tuna are found throughout the year in these warm offshore waters and most abundant in the summer from June through September. Tuna are among the worlds hardest running fish. From 8 to 15 pound football size, up to 200 pound freight trains, one can expect a long hard battle with the right tackle.
WAHOO
The Wahoo has a special charisma not because of its racehorse build or its razor teeth, but because of its sizzling surface runs up to 45 mph, which is one of the fastest game fish. They are occasionally caught in the summer from late June to early August.
AMBERJACK
What the amberjack may lack in long runs and jumping is made-up by its super strength. This gold and purple colored fish is fun to catch and a challenge to fight with light tackle.
Amberjack are caught inshore all year long, but are most abundant from June to December.
ROOSTERFISH
The Roosterfish is a member of the jack family, and is aptly named for its long comb-like dorsal fin and dominate strips. The local waters are home to a large population that can grow up to 75 pounds. Roosterfish are one of the most exciting inshore game fish to fight on light tackle. As they come up on the bait to attack, the Roosterfish will raise its black comb out of the water in an aggressive display. Best fishing is during the summer months from June through early September.
RED SNAPPER
This inshore fish is found in and around reefs and high spots. Red Snapper are caught inshore all year long, but are most abundant in November and December. A member of the Lutjanidae family of snapper, one of the most sought after of the reef fish, with superb tasting white meat.
SIERRA MACKEREL
Quick and agile these aggressive members of the mackerel family are available throughout the year. Wherever they occur around the coastline and reefs, the toothy Sierra Mackerel are top light tackle sport, bait and food fish.
SNOOK
In Costa Rica Snook can be taken on the open beaches washed by gentle surf as well as estuaries, canals, river mouths and creeks. These fish fight with the exciting tricks of other fish, running and jumping with gills flaring. They are caught by trolling and casting lures and live bait. The best season is during July to the end of November.
